This is not a stock E6430 ATG. It’s Dell’s semi-rugged Latitude, restored and upgraded with one goal: to let a tough, field-ready business laptop handle everyday computing as comfortably as a new machine does. What went into this restoration - Processor upgraded from Core i5 to a brand-new Intel Core i7-3520M. A dual-core, 4-thread CPU (2.90 GHz base, up to 3.60 GHz with Turbo Boost, 4MB cache).
- Memory upgraded to 16GB DDR3 1600MHz. Keep many browser tabs, office documents, and applications open at the same time without the system slowing down.
- New screen. A replacement 14" HD display at 1366 x 768.
- Dual-drive configuration for speed and capacity (1.25TB total). Windows runs from a 256GB SSD that I added, so the laptop boots and opens applications quickly. I replaced the optical drive with a drive caddy that holds a 1TB 2.5" SATA hard drive, which gives you room for files, photos, and projects. The SSD covers speed and the HDD covers space.
- Windows 11 Pro and Microsoft Office 2024 Professional Plus installed. See the note on Windows 11 below.
About Windows 11 on this machine Microsoft officially supports Windows 11 only on 8th-generation Intel processors and newer. With the upgrades above, and bypassing Windows’ installation restrictions, we got Windows 11 Pro running well, with good performance, on this 3rd-generation machine. If you need features that depend on TPM 2.0, such as BitLocker, this is not the machine for you. These requirements matter to only a small part of users, and we don’t think it’s fair to keep a lot of good machines from running Windows 11 because of them. What it’s ready for - Casual computing: web browsing, email, online shopping, banking, and video calls with the built-in webcam and microphone
- Entertainment and streaming: music and video streaming in full screen
- Everyday workstation: documents, spreadsheets, and presentations in Microsoft Office, PDFs, and multitasking across many open windows
- Software development: code editors, scripting, Git, and terminal work, with 16GB of RAM for running several tools at once
- AI tools: AI chat assistants and other web-based apps
- Dedicated workflows: a reliable, durable machine set aside for a single job
For everyday tasks, this machine keeps up with new laptops. For heavy gaming or professional video editing, a modern system is the better choice. Specifications - Model: Dell Latitude E6430 ATG (semi-rugged)
