>>> This is configured for Gloss Black, not Matte. Please view the photos showing the maintenance status information printouts. I highlighted in orange showing the model as CW-C4000u-BK, Gloss black. For some reason the gloss cartridges still show a MK on the label which can be confusing.<<<
Here's the Epson website address. It's the only reliable source for product information.
I powered on and ink charged it on September 24, 2025. The initialization process prompted me to choose between gloss or matte black. Gloss was chosen, using the ink cartridge provided with the machine. At the time, I didn't know what to do with it. I needed a label printer, but really only for printing shipping labels. I considered selling it at the time but decided to keep it. I knew this was a diamond in the rough that may be useful sometime down the road.
On 9/24/25, I set the printer up to perform periodic nozzle checks ensuring the printhead would remain clean.I experimented with printing a few labels and using the auto / manual cutter. The cutting feature is incredibly cool and useful when using continuous rolls of label paper. I placed a cover on the printer and checked on it periodically.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND that It's missing the ink door cover. It works fine without it by simply tripping the door switch with tape, label, or the included rubber stopper I use.
Nozzle checks are always perfect. Please review the photos for condition.
This machine is for all intents and purposes NEW (other than learning and testing prints). The exterior and interior of the unit are pristine.
I obtained this from a local print business that was unwinding due to the owner retiring. When I inspected it, the ink door was missing and the owner didn't know why. He assumed that one of his employees may have damaged it somehow. I purchased it anyway, not being sure of what I was getting myself into. I assumed likely a clogged printer.
It came with four genuine Epson cartridges, all dated 2027.
When I turned the printer on for the first time, I received an onscreen message to close the ink cover. I bypassed the message by using a torn piece of label I had handy.
Next, it prompted meto indicate if I was using gloss or matte ink. I thought this odd, assuming it should know that already. I didn't realize that the printer was getting ready to initialize and ink charge for first use. I couldn't believe that I was witnessing!
The initial ink charge used a decent amount of the ink, so I purchased some less expensive generic cartridges for testing and any other initial maintenance it may perform. The original carts can be seen in the brown box photo. They are of no use because even though the cartridges feel like they still have ink, supply screen shows that they are empty.
Included with the printer will be: A roll of Genuine Epson Matte paper in the photosA full set of Epson CYMK carts with expiration dates of 2027 or 2028.The Printer Manual. The Original genuine Epson power supply. The little red rubber stopper I use to trip the door switch (although a torm piece of label works as good or better).A USB-C printer cord. I included a printout of the total label count which also includes the total label length used in mm. In the printout photo I included was just about 5.2 ft. total length used with a total of only 16 sheets printed! This is not something that can be cleared through any sort of reset to the machine, but a legitimate tally from first use.
You'll also see that I included updated photos of the maintenance screen displaying the higher total use values. It's 39 sheets and 4656 mm. This equates to 4656 / 25.4 = 183.31 inches or 15.25 ft. That's nothing for this printer! It may be slightly higher when puchased since I'm enjoying learning the machine and performing some test prints. It works so nice that part of me still wants to keep.
Please message with any questions you may have. I'll be happy to provide any additional photos or information.
Thanks for looking!
