For sale is a Buffalo HRX-C12TY CPU accelerator with a Texas Instruments TX486DLC/E processor and an onboard Cyrix 87DLC floating-point coprocessor. The underside identification label reads HRX-C12TY, and the circuit board is marked HRX-C12T.
This Japanese-made accelerator was designed to upgrade compatible 80286-based NEC PC-9801 computers while retaining the original motherboard. It is an interesting period upgrade for a PC-98 restoration or collection, combining a 486DLC processor, internal cache and a separate hardware math coprocessor on one compact board.
The fitted processor is marked TX486DLC/E-40GA and has 1KB of internal instruction/data cache. The Cyrix coprocessor is marked Cx87DLC-40QP and provides hardware floating-point support for software that uses it.
- Texas Instruments TX486DLC/E-40GA processor, rated for 40MHz
- 1KB internal CPU cache
- Onboard Cyrix Cx87DLC-40QP floating-point coprocessor
- Underside PLCC-style CPU connection, as shown in the photos
The HRX-C12T normally uses a clock multiplier to run the processor at three times the host CPU clock. Actual operating speed therefore depends on the computer and the module’s configuration. The processor’s 40MHz marking should not be taken as a fixed operating speed in every installation.
Please verify compatibility with your exact computer model, CPU arrangement and available clearance before purchasing. This is a model-specific vintage upgrade, and compatibility with other 286 computers, IBM PC/AT systems or PS/2 models is not established simply by having a similar CPU socket.
The sale includes the accelerator module with its fitted processor and Cyrix coprocessor, as pictured. No computer, software disks, manuals or additional installation accessories are included.
Please see the photos for the exact board, component markings and cosmetic condition.
