Cards like this were used to connect personal computers to telephone lines for dial-up data communication — enabling bulletin board system (BBS) access, early online services, file transfer, and remote terminal sessions at speeds typical of late-1980s modem technology. Everex Systems was a prominent PC peripheral and clone maker of that era, and the EV-923 was representative of the integrated internal modem cards that competed with external serial-port modems of the time. Today these cards are primarily of interest to vintage PC enthusiasts, collectors restoring period-correct IBM PC/XT/AT systems, and hobbyists running original DOS-era BBS or communication software on hardware of the same generation.Condition: Used
