HP Printable Expressions – Greeting Cards (The Special Edition Collection) was Hewlett-Packard's first consumer software product specifically targeting the DIY greeting card market.
Released in 1998–1999, this vintage desktop publishing program was built to help everyday consumers design and print professional-quality cards directly from their home computers.
Historic Context
• The Desktop Printing Boom: In the late 1990s, color inkjet printers became affordable for households. HP launched this kit to give consumers a creative, personal reason to use their home printers, bundling the software together with specialized card stock and matching texturized envelopes.
• Software Design: Developed under the "hijk" creative studio label, the software includes a library of pre-set graphical layouts, templates, and pre-written greetings categorized for different life events and occasions.
