Western Digital WD Red Plus 12TB NAS Hard Drive – Excellent Condition – Lightly UsedPrice is for one (1) disk not the full box.Selling my Western Digital WD Red Plus 12TB 3.5-inch internal hard drives, previously used exclusively for Chia cryptocurrency farming. These drives are in excellent physical condition and were used primarily for long-term data storage rather than intensive daily read/write operations. Original boxes are included. How Were These Drives Used? These drives were used to store Chia cryptocurrency plots. Unlike traditional cryptocurrency mining, Chia farming relies on available hard drive storage rather than continuous intensive processing. Why these drives have experienced relatively light usage:* Written Only Once: Each hard drive was initially filled with Chia plots, which remained stored without regular rewriting.
* Minimal Read Activity: After the initial setup, the drives were connected to a server where Chia farming required only occasional, small reads to verify stored plots.
* No Continuous Writing: These drives were not used for operating systems, surveillance recording, databases, or other write-intensive applications.
* Low-Intensity Workload: Most of their operating time was spent storing data and remaining available for occasional farming activity.
* Excellent Physical Condition: The drives were installed in a server environment and were not regularly moved or handled.Although these drives are technically used, their workload was primarily static storage with minimal ongoing disk activity. What Is Chia Farming?Chia is a cryptocurrency that uses a Proof of Space and Time system rather than the traditional Proof of Work mining used by Bitcoin.Chia farmers store large files called plots on hard drives. The network periodically checks these plots for opportunities to earn cryptocurrency rewards.Once the plots are created and saved, farming generally involves occasional small reads rather than continuously writing new data. This makes the workload significantly different from applications involving constant recording or file modifications.Perfect For* NAS systems (Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS)
